A defendant can challenge a garnishment on the grounds that the amount is incorrect or the defendant may challenge the existence of a judgment. A court can order the garnishment released and stayed until the validity of the judgment can be determined. A plaintiff may also challenge a garnishee's response to a summons of garnishment by filing a traverse. A traverse can claim that the garnishee's answer is untrue or legally insufficient.
